The 4.6 V8 is a bulletproof little motor. This generation Thunderbird is unloved and completely under appreciated. Why? I have no idea. Super handling, braking, comfort. Four wheel disc brakes, four wheel independent suspension, huge trunk, honest adult capable back seat, sleek styling, reminiscent of early BMW coupes. So much to like. Bought right, a no brainer.

Only thing missing here is the fold down back seat, which I’m not sure by the end of the Thunderbird model run was still an options llove that feature on our SC.

Only the SC’s had the fold-down rear seats.
Normal V6 & V8 Birds did not.
Would have been nice if they did, though.

This ac works as good as any car I
Have been in. It was 100 here recently
And I was literally cold and had to turn
It down. So what ever Ford did it works
Very well!

That was something dealers would add to the factory build back then, in order to tack on a supplemental option sticker next to the factory window sticker. Basically, an upsell, which probably included the rear spoiler. You’d see “Special Edition Package” and some kind of rather steep price for what you got. Big profit item for them.

This definitely has all the factory options, as far as I can tell. Auto climate and moonroof, which most Thunderbirds didn’t get.

I used to rent these all the time when they were new, as the company I worked for had an account with Hertz so we got VIP service, upgrades, etc. Most of the cars had the base V6, but I learned a trick. For whatever reason, the V8 ones also had sunroofs. So, at the counter I’d ask if they had one with a sunroof, as a way to get the V8. (Got some looks when I make that request in Buffalo, NY in January!)

But I will say, V6 or V8, these cars soaked up the highway miles with ease, even returning respectable mileage. Plenty of trunk room too.

Just to confirm the badges are gold? I also see a small dent on the rear quarter panel just in front of the gas door near the wheel flare. You can see it at about 44 seconds in the walk around clip, but is hard to see in the pictures.. Are there any other small dings or scratches on the car? It’s a 30 year old classic at this point so no biggie… Also do you know when the intake manifold was replaced? The original would have been all “plastic” and then they started making replacements with metal for the coolant passage, which this one has been upgraded. The newer ones must come with those extra brackets, to hold the newer style alternator (Mustang), and is also why the plug wires go under the alternator instead of on top like an original. Thanks.

Out and looked. It has a very small door
Ding which I will have fixed near the gas
Door. I know someone who can fix that
Professionally and it will be fixed. No other
Dings . Looked it over very carefully again!
No scratches. No idea when the manifold
Was replaced.

@civilguy took everything I had to not bid. Love the MN12 bird, but this one is literally as far away from me as possible. Between taxes, fees, and shipping, I would have been close to $11k. Had it been even 10 hours from me, it would be mine, but 29 hours is too much.

Yeah I’m about as far east coast as you could be :) Shipping etc… just keeps adding to the cost.

@deanwinchester @civilguy almost same $$$ situation here, although much closer to the car. Over the border about 8hrs away, but not sure abut all this tariff stuff going on – could be 50% by the time we got to the crossing.

@52GMC It did and it didn’t. The MN12 birds and the Mark VIII are vastly under appreciated, and they should bring more money, but $6-7k is pretty much the market on a 50K mile 4.6L. It’s incredibly rare to see an MN12 bird over $10k, even low mileage super coupes.

What a great deal…super comfortable car with a reliable V8. Should be worth a lot more IMHO.

@deanwinchester I agree, just not a big following… The only reason I even look at these is because I had one in my formative years, lol… I only got it because my parents wouldn’t let me have a mustang. I got mine from my old uncle who couldn’t drive anymore… that’s who bought these cars back then, old people who wanted a “T-Bird” I then commenced to heavily mod mine, I swapped in a T-45, added a clutch pedal, and some nitrous :) …. haha… Anyways, not a lot lookers for these…. But they are big and heavy and ride great!
